A Call to Action

As Middle Tennessee Tea Party is a non-partisan association of citizens, dedicated to organizing the People of Rutherford County against taxation, socialization, and other government policies that undermine the Rights and Liberties of the People, it is our duty to target and replace those elected representatives whose records run contrary to our principles.

To wit, we announced at the Tailgate Tea Party on July 10th our first target for replacement: Rep. Bart Gordon.

Without even reading them first, Bart Gordon voted:

  • yes on the $787,000,000,000 ($787 billion) stimulus bill,
  • yes on a $3,400,000,000,000 ($3.4 trillion) budget, the largest in the history of the united States,
  • yes to doubling the national debt to $17,400,000,000,000 ($17.4 trillion) between this year and next, and
  • yes on “Cap & Trade”/“Cap & Tax,” a global warming boondoggle whose environmental effects will be insignificant at best, while nearly doubling gasoline, electricity, and heating costs for the middle- and lower classes!

What you can do

As I said during my talk at the Tea Party, the founding Fathers had a particular idea about public office. They recognized two kinds: Offices of Trust and Offices of Profit.  Offices of Profit were jobs that could be done efficiently without regards to party or politics.  They included jobs like county clerk, the Mayor’s secretary, and police officers.

Elected positions, however, were to be Offices of Trust.  These jobs were intended to be done by honest patriots answering a call from their fellow Citizens to serve the People of their districts, not wannabe politicos looking to score cheap political points and kicks back with special interests while pushing their own personal agendas to line their own pockets.

The founding Fathers, then, would tell us not to vote not for the first person who comes along claiming to be better than the current office holder.  They would tell us that it is our duty as citizens to find the best person for the job, someone who is an honest, hard working, fellow citizen with the heart of a servant, who has nothing to lose by standing on Principle, and draft him for the job.

Now there already are a few people who have announced their candidacy for Bart Gordon’s seat.  Middle Tennessee Tea Party is not taking any particular position on these people running for office.  What we are saying, however, is this: it is your most solemn patriotic duty, even before voting, to know who the candidates are and where they stand on what issues and who asked them to run. If none are satisfactory, find and encourage the best person for the job to take up the cause!
